Who, or what exactly is Lights? You may have heard a few of her songs featured in Old Navy commercials back in 2008, or maybe you recently heard her single “Saviour” on the radio.

After moving to Toronto a few years ago from the suburbs of Vancouver, Lights found herself writing and producing for other artists including songs for the CTV series, Instant Star. It’s easy to see that music to Lights is more than an outlet for creativity, but also as a means of communicating emotions.  She makes it clear on her Myspace page that her music is meant to be “apple pie happy”, and her carefully crafted syntho-pop tracks full of TLC really do evoke just that type of happiness.

Six months after scoring the Best New Artist award at the 2009 Juno Awards, Lights released her debut album “The Listening” on September 22nd, which also includes the majority of the tracks from her six-song self-titled 2008 EP.  Lights is certainly shining bright these days, and her album is slated to be released in early October in the US. With a tightly knit group of fans connected by the worldwide web, her keytar, and the support of her band members Adam and Maurie, Lights is ready to take over the world. Who doesn’t love a girl who is open about her love for WoW, and got inspiration for her album cover from Watchmen?

Lights will be touring this Fall in the US, and will slowly make her way back up North. Her first Canadian tour stop will be in Vancouver at the Commodore Ballroom on November 7th, and at $20, you can’t really go wrong. For a full list of tour dates, check out: http://www.iamlights.com.
