RED TRUCK PARKING LOT SERIES – August 15, 2015

The Red Truck Beer Company opened their Vancouver brewery earlier this year, followed by the on-site restaurant. In conjunction with the opening of the The Truck Stop Diner, Red Truck, CFOX, and 93.7 JRFM previously announced the Red Truck Parking Lot Series. Saturday’s line-up consisted of The Gaff, Pigeon Park, Good for Grapes, The Dudes, and Head of the Herd.

It was a cloudy start to the day, but the weather played out in Red Truck’s favour as the sun found its way out from behind the clouds. The parking lot filled up more and more as each of the acts played. The vibe was certainly there – music, beer, food trucks, a DJ playing between bands, and sunshine.

I arrived just in time, as Vancouver’s own Pigeon Park hit the stage. The band won the 99.3 Fox Seeds competition back in 2013, and have since toured with a number of bands including The Tea Party, who I saw them open for at the Commodore Ballroom last October. There is a pure and energetic rock’n’roll vibe to Pigeon Park, which thrives in their live show.

Good For Grapes proved to fit right in with the more rock-based bands in the evening’s line-up. The indie-folk band excitedly announced the upcoming release of their new album October, followed by a stellar cover of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army”.  Their lively set brought the crowd to the front of the stage and to their feet.

By the time The Dudes and Head of the Herd hit the stage, the crowd was packed in the front of the stage. If you missed out on the show, don’t worry – there is one more installment of the Red Truck Parking Lot Series on Saturday September 12th!
