LIGHTS @ Commodore Ballroom

lights_vancouver_commodoreLIGHTS played at the Commodore Ballroom on Saturday night to a crowd who was almost as excited to be there, as she was. After wrapping up her US tour just the night before in Seattle, Lights is proving to be unstoppable in her quest for music kingdom domination, as her Canadian tour is just heating up with Victoria’s very own Jets Overhead opening up.

The show had the feel of a homecoming for Lights, as her friends and family were in attendance, and she openly talked about her love of Vancouver throughout the night. One of the best things about Lights is her stage presence: always bright, positive, and a true shining star. You can’t help but smile when you watch her, because you see how genuine and how much she loves to perform her music.

Backed by drummer Maurie and keyboardist Adam, Lights started the night off with her title track, ‘The Listening’ and breezed her way through songs off of her debut album as well as two from her previous EP release. Through the middle of her set, she slowed things down and came back for an encore with a cover of Phil Collin’s  ‘In the Air Tonight’.

Here’s the set list from the show:

  • The Listening
  • Lions!
  • February Air
  • Saviour
  • Pretend
  • Quiet
  • White
  • Drive My Soul
  • River
  • The Last Thing on Your Mind

Encore:

  • In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins cover)
  • February Air (Acoustic)

The last time Lights headlined a show in Vancouver was at the Biltmore back in January. In comparing the two shows, past and present, Lights hasn’t changed much. Still bubbly as ever, but definitely more mature in terms of presentation and set-up. It was a delight in hearing the acoustic version of ‘February Air’ during her encore, and personally, something that would be amazing to hear and see in the future. The simplicity of the acoustic of her songs really showcase the loveliness of the lyrics in her songs.

Lights continues her cross-Canada trek on Tuesday night in Victoria. Canadians, you do not want to miss out on this tour! 🙂 For full tour dates and information, go check out her official website at: http://www.iamlights.com.

Hey! Great review 🙂 I wanted to be there but couldn’t because of the age limit. I went to her show back in September when she toured with Keane and it was amazing 🙂
Did you get to meet her?

Hi Janz! Thanks for checking our blog out. 🙂

Glad that you at least got to see Lights open for Keane, hopefully in the future she will have some shows that are all-ages. And yes, we got to meet her before the show, but because we bought tickets through Rogers and they have the Meet and Greet included with it. She is a very lovely person. 🙂
