#musicmonday Artist Feature – SAN SEBASTIAN

Hometown: Hamilton, ON | Label: Universal Music Canada

MuchMusic’s original series, disBAND, has well established itself as a legitimate showcase for undiscovered Canadian talent, most notably citing Stereos as one of its most successful alumni as well as up-comers These Kids Wear Crowns, who recently finished touring with Faber Drive. Exposure is certainly everything these days, and the more you get, the more good things that you get in return.

A band from Hamilton named Pumps appeared on the show earlier this year, and not only did they receive the thumbs up from the panel of judges in pursuing their musical dreams, but also received significant praise on the song that they performed and had worked on perfecting during their time on the show.

Fast forward to a few months later, Pumps was renamed as San Sebastian. In addition to the name change, the band impressed the right people, and secured a record deal with Universal Music Canada. In May, San Sebastian released their debut single – ‘Wake Up’ – the same song that previously garnered them praise from the disBAND judges.

San Sebastian consists of Mike Veerman (vocals), Greg Veerman (bass), Brodie Dawson (guitar), Sean Dawson (guitar), and Ted Paterson (drums). The band has been actively playing shows in their home province of Ontario, undoubtedly with an ever-growing fan base, and their debut album is expected to drop sometime this year. The band not only has charisma, which actively draws listeners in and also translates well in their live performances, but their chemistry is evident.

If their story so far is any indication of what the future holds, San Sebastian is set to make an impact in the Canadian music industry. And we can’t wait to hear it.
