CD REVIEW: Lillix – Tigerlily (2010)

In the eleven months since we last featured the band on asapmusicblog.ca, Lillix has been keeping busy in preparing their third studio album, Tigerlily. The title of the album gives a nod to their original band name.

Perhaps this is the album that Lillix has always envisioned making. Now an unsigned band, Lillix has been able to control every aspect of their career from the way that they are presented to every single musical detail, which includes overseeing and co-producing the nine-track record.

Between the hiatus of Inside The Hollow to present time, Lillix has matured not only as individuals, which has included a rotating roster of band members (the current three new members are Eric Hoodicoff, Cameron Brass, and Alex Varon), but also as songwriters. Each of the nine tracks are written by Tasha-Ray and Lacey-Lee Evin, with two of the tracks co-written by Hoodicoff. The sound of Tigerlily is very much Lillix, but grown up.

Tracks such as the first single, ‘Dance Alone’, along with ‘Seven Days’ and the current single ‘Nowhere To Run’ seem to continue in the footsteps of the beat and tempo experimentation from Inside The Hollow. It is clear that Lillix are music industry veterans, and their experience is only going to help them. In retrospect, the title of the album is fitting.

As Canadian music advocates, we definitely recommend Tigerlily, which is available now. Check out http://www.lillixonline.com for more information and upcoming tour dates.
