Boy & Bear played to a sold-out crowd at the Commodore Ballroom on Sunday evening, marking the Sydney band’s first time in Vancouver.
From the moment that tickets went on sale, followed with a venue change due to demand – it was clear that music fans were excited for this show. Living up to their namesake, Toronto band Wildlife amped the room up with their anthemic songs and even successfully prompted the crowd for a sing-along.
As bassist Dave Symes noted in our Q&A last week, Boy & Bear’s set list incorporates tracks from both their debut and sophomore releases. The band shined particularly in their live performances of songs off Harlequin Dream,聽which Symes fittingly indicated as capturing “the live spirit of the band”.
The band seemed to be in awe of the warm reception from the crowd and expressed this during the banter between songs. As indicated by lead singer Dave Hosking, the band had a tradition of looking up fun facts about each new city they visited for the first time, as dictated by drummer Tim Hart.
In case you didn’t know, Vancouver is one of the most livable cities in the world (topped by Melbourne), Green Peace formed here in the early 1970’s, we experience an average of 167 days of rain per year, and we are home to the 4th largest cruise ship terminal in the world (Port Metro Vancouver).
One more fun fact can be added to that list – Vancouver can’t wait for Boy & Bear’s next show in our city.
