JPNSGRLS (with vowels, Japanese Girls) have had a busy year so far, and there are no signs of slowing down. The band released “Smalls“, the first single from their upcoming full-length debut Circulation, just before they toured Western Canada with Mounties. With lots of new fans in tow, JPNSGRLS graced the top of CBC Radio’s Top 30 listener-voted chart for four consecutive weeks with “Smalls”.
Ahead of their upcoming appearance at Singapore’s Music Matters Live, JPNSGRLS played their first (and likely not last) all-ages show of the year at The Cultch as part of the IGNITE! Youth Festival. If there’s one thing the band is never short on, it is energy. The first time I saw JPNSGRLS play was last September at the Biltmore when they opened for Limblifter, and they won me over with the intensity and cohesiveness of their live show.
That same level of intensity was present on Saturday night, if not further fueled by the reception of the audience. The band was every bit as enthused as those in the crowd, and it was clear that they had gained a number of new fans by the end of the performance. Be sure to keep an eye out for the next JPNSGRLS show, don’t miss out!
