Last Friday night was a prime example of how music brings people together.
Saskatoon’s Acronyms opened for local favourites JPNSGRLS at The Media Club. It always leads back to six degrees of separation, as Acronyms’ vocalist and bassist Brynn Krysa met JPNSGRLS last summer through her previous band Young Benjamins, as the two bands both played the Taste of Edmonton.
It was also through her previous band that brought Krysa together with her current bandmates – Billy Tataryn, Adan Lemus, and Tyson Goodyear, who are also from other bands from the Saskatoon music scene.
Playing songs from their debut EP SIMPLECOMPLEX, there was certainly a sense of cohesion and maturity in Acronym’s live show, as they brought their songs to life. The EP itself was recorded live off the floor over a period of five days. The ambient sounds of Acronyms translated well on stage, and warmed the crowd up nicely ahead of JPNSGRLS’ set.
By the time JPNSGRLS hit the stage, the crowd at The Media Club packed together towards the front of the stage. The band recently returned home after playing SXSW just two weeks prior, and were visibly excited to play to the hometown crowd. The audience was equally receptive, eagerly eating up every second of JPNSGRLS’ live show, which was full of their signature energy and charisma.
Stay tuned for our interview with JPNSGRLS, where we caught up with the band and got details about their SXSW experience and much more.
