THE KATHERINES, Biltmore Cabaret – May 22, 2015

The Katherines played their debut show this past Friday at the Biltmore Cabaret. The latest addition to the 604 Records roster had built quite the buzz surrounding the show, and the evening certainly did not disappoint.

Bo Zzetto started the night off with a cover of The Killer’s “All These Things That I’ve Done”, which made an excellent sing-a-long to warm the crowd up. Another new addition to the local music scene, REGAL was also making their Vancouver debut and exuded tremendous energy. The band is comprised of a few familiar faces from other local bands and projects, including Dominique Fricot, Dave Young, and Mike Young.

Since the doors opened at 7:00pm, it was clear that the room at the Biltmore was full of friends, family, and fans who had come out to support The Katherines. Comprised of Kate Kurdyak, Lauren Kurdyak, and Kaitlyn Hansen-Boucher, The Katherines debuted officially earlier this month. Just before the band went onstage, Kate and Clayton Dupuis of Oceanographers (who co-starred) introduced the premiere of The Katherines’ first single and music video, “Cherry Lips”.

I had previously seen The Katherines perform together as Kate Kurdyak’s band and noticed the immediate chemistry and cohesiveness on stage. There is a musical magic to The Katherines that proves that good things come in threes. If there were any nerves on stage on Friday night, it was overshadowed by the band feeding off of the crowd’s enthusiastic energy. The Katherines performed a solid set of songs from their debut album, which is set for release later this year, and ended the night with an encore performance of “Cherry Lips”.

I had the pleasure of interviewing The Katherines before they played their debut show on Friday. Check back for the full interview later this week!
