It was a Saturday night, typically rainy in the way Vancouver is known for. In a small ballroom situated above the renowned Biltmore Cabaret, Juke Ross walked onto the stage to much fanfare.
Local musician Haley Blais opened and helped set the evening up with cozy feels within the already intimate space. By the time Ross stepped on stage, it felt like everyone was situated in an old friend’s living room, which perfectly aligned with what was to follow that evening. Aside from having his name in light boxes on stage, Ross’ stage set-up was simple––just him and his guitar, and that’s all that was needed.
The emotional resonance of his lyrics was just as strong in person as it was through streaming, and the crowd took it all in. It was the singer-songwriter’s first time in Vancouver, but you wouldn’t have known it, as the crowd sang along to every lyric of his Spotify-topping songs like “Morning Breeze” and “Colours”. In addition to the fan favourites, Ross also played songs from his latest EP, Trading Places.
The show at the Biltmore Ballroom was the final show of Ross’ tour dates, and he truly left it all on the stage.
We had the opportunity to chat with Juke Ross before he played his show in Vancouver, and learned about his music, tour highlights, and what to expect from him in the new year––interview coming soon.
