Haleluya Hailu is a Vancouver-raised singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet, activist, and your new favourite indie sleaze pop star.
Haleluya released her debut EP, eternally yours, via 604 Records earlier this year and has a slew of live shows scheduled this summer.
You’ll find her playing Sled Island in Calgary on June 23, Phillips Backyard Music Festival in Victoria on July 7, ArtsWell Festival from August 2 to 5, and Summerlight Festival in Vancouver on August 10–just to name a few.

Q: Introduce yourself!
Haleluya Hailu: I’m the coolest simply. Queen of the self-discovered genre of ‘black girl indie sleaze pop rock’ and a collector of hand made pottery.
Q: How would you describe your music to a first-time listener?
HH: My music is a mix of guitar-driven pop tunes with my on-brand Vancouverite hater energy with lyrical inspiration from bands like Fall Out Boy, Weezer, and Clairo.
Q: What is your favourite music venue in Vancouver?
HH: 648 Kingsway!
Q: If someone is listening to you for the first time, which song would you recommend they start with?
HH: Depends how you feel! If you have a long list of enemies to be passive-aggressive toward–’MANIC PIXIE PACIFIST’.
If you’re unemployed and partake in a bit of cannabis–’Walmart’.
And if you’re just finishing your first year of college and had a bad time–’postal code’.
Q: What was the last live show you attended?
HH: I had the pleasure of seeing Panchiko at the Vogue on 4/20! Local favorites Hope Slide opened up for them, making a great show even better.
