There’s something to be said about the energy that a band has when they’re playing a live show. Michigan Rattlers made their return to Vancouver last night at the Fox Cabaret and lived up to the high-energy rock and roll energy that they’re known for.
South Carolina native Elias Hix warmed the room up and charmed the crowd to start the evening off. A natural storyteller, Hix engaged the audience through stories about his hometown and the inspiration behind his songs. One story in particular involved an older woman named “Helen” who requested a song be written in her honour—her namesake song ended up being the first release off of Hix’s upcoming debut EP. A reminder for us all to be bold and ask for the things we want, and you might just end up with a beautiful song.
There was a lot of anticipation in the room for Michigan Rattlers‘ set and the room had filled up nicely by the time the band hit the stage. Smiles were beaming from both sides of the stage: the band seeing the enthusiastic reception and the crowd attentively taking in the music. We had gotten a preview of what to expect from Michigan Rattlers’ live show during our conversation with lead singer Graham Young, and the band’s chemistry is just as strong in person as you’ll hear it in their studio albums or in live videos of their performances.
