OUR LADY PEACE @ VOGUE THEATRE – May 14, 2010

Our Lady Peace played the Vogue on Friday night the second show of a three-night series, which had the band playing their 1997 album ‘Clumsy’ in its entirety along with both old and new material. Fans packed into the theatre, anxiously awaiting the band to hit the stage, and it was clear that they were in full force in cheering “O-L-P!” from the start to the end of the night.

Part one of the show was the tracklist of ‘Clumsy’:

  • Superman’s Dead
  • Automatic Flowers
  • Carnival
  • Big Dumb Rocket
  • 4am
  • Shaking
  • Clumsy
  • Hello Oskar
  • Let You Down
  • The Story of 100 Aisles
  • Car Crash

As soon as the band hit the stage, fans sitting in the orchestra level ran towards the stage with encouragement from the band, filling up the space at the front of the theatre. It was certainly an intimate show from the get-go, and as the night went on, the connection between audience and band grew. Crowd-favourites such as ‘4am’, ‘Clumsy’, and ‘Innocent’ in the second part of the set were well received, and everyone was singing along – it’s always impressive when everyone knows each and every single word.

After a brief intermission, the band returned onstage for the second part of the show, and the crowd appeared to be even more amped up than they were previously. There were various crowd surfers who made it up onto the stage, and were quickly escorted off by security, only to return back onto the stage.

Part two (thank you Mickey for the set-list!):

  • Monkey Brains
  • Innocent
  • Life
  • Is Anybody Home
  • One Man Army
  • Paper Moon
  • Angels/Losing/Sleep
  • Somewhere Out There
  • All You Did Was Save My Life

Encore:

  • Naveed/Kids (MGMT cover) (interlude)
  • Dreamland
  • Starseed

It was clear on the reasoning behind the popularity of the band with its audience. Our Lady Peace has a certain type of honesty that is impossible to duplicate, and it was clear that the honesty resonated greatly with each and every single fan in the room. Lead singer Raine Maida ended the night reaching out to fans, thanking them for the support and letting them know that the band appreciated their attendance, a nice gesture.

It was a good show. I regret missing out on seeing them at the O-Zone (for free!) during the Olympics, actually.
