EVENTS: David Newberry @ HINDERBURG – September 13, 2015
David Newberry will be independently releasing his 3rd full-length album, Replacement Things, on September 11th. Newberry will be touring Western Canada in support of the release, including a stop in Vancouver on September 13th at Hindenburg with The Wild Romantics & The Nautical Miles.
EVENTS: Gold & Shadow Western Canadian Tour Dates
Gold & Shadow are gearing up for the release of their debut full-length album Torch on September 4th. In support of the release, the band will be embarking on a Western Canadian tour with a stop in Vancouver at The Railway Club on September 13th.
SOTD: BESTiE – Bubble Bath
BESTiE has released the perfect late summer jam with their latest single, “Bubble Bath”. The track is as bubbly and fun as you can imagine, complete with appropriate sound effects. Produced by Shawn Cole (Said The Whale, Bend Sinister), “Bubble Bath” features BESTiE’s signature tropical-pop feel. The band will be playing a hometown show at The Astoria this Saturday August 29th.
INTERVIEW: Becky G
Becky G has the keys to success – drive, determination, and passion. At the age of nine, Becky had a moment of realization amidst a rough patch that her family was facing, as they were forced to sell their home and relocated to her grandparents’ garage. She wanted to find a way to relieve the financial stress of her parents, pursuing small entertainment gigs including voice-overs and commercials. It was not only passion that was there, but also talent. Her cover of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “Otis” captured the attention of Dr. Luke, known for his work with Katy Perry and Ke$ha to name a few, who immediately signed Becky to his label Kemosabe Records. He has referred to the singer / songwriter / rapper / model / actor as the total package – and he may be onto something. I had the opportunity to chat with Becky G just ahead of the first stop of her first headlining tour in Canada for Family’s Big Ticket Summer Concert tour in Abbotsford yesterday.
RED TRUCK PARKING LOT SERIES – August 15, 2015
The Red Truck Beer Company opened their Vancouver brewery earlier this year, followed by the on-site restaurant. In conjunction with the opening of the The Truck Stop Diner, Red Truck, CFOX, and 93.7 JRFM previously announced the Red Truck Parking Lot Series. Saturday’s line-up consisted of The Gaff, Pigeon Park, Good for Grapes, The Dudes, and Head of the Herd.
TICKET GIVEAWAY: Empire of the Sun @ Orpheum Theatre – September 16, 2015
There is a visual aspect to Empire of the Sun that stands out, particularly in their music videos. The electro-glam-pop duo from Australia consists of Luke Steel and Nick Littlemoor, who began collaborating together for their respective groups before creating their own project. The visual aspect of Empire of the Sun is as bright, bold, and beautiful as their music with headpieces, bright lights, and a majestic wardrobe.
SOTD: Speed Control – This Time
Speed Control have kept their status of hardest working band from the Yukon alive this summer, as they have been busy touring and running their RAWK camps as they travel across Canada. Speed Control will be finishing their tour in Vancouver, playing two shows at The Railway Club on August 29th and 30th.
THE FOLK ROAD SHOW, Wise Hall – July 25, 2015
Last weekend, those in attendance at Wise Hall in Vancouver were treated to a lovely evening with The Folk Road Show.
SOTD: Derrival – Canvas
Derrival is gearing up to release a new EP, Departure & Arrival, on August 21st. Following the release, the band will hit the road for a series of Western Canadian tour dates beginning August 29th in Kelowna. The band will play a hometown show in Vancouver on September 25th at Venue.
