We first featured Dominique Fricot on our blog as one of our #musicmonday artists in June. A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to chat with the Vancouver singer-songwriting about his first full-length album Sweet Little Fantasy and got to know the person behind the music.
EVENTS: East Van Summer Jam @ STRATHCONA PARK – July 5, 2014
The first annual East Van Summer Jam will take place tomorrow at Strathcona Park. Vancouver’s The Boom Booms will be headlining the event and giving away copies of a limited edition East Van Summer Jam Mixtape to the first 1,000 attendees through the gates.
#musicmonday Artist Feature – Dominique Fricot
Dominique Fricot’s first full-length album Sweet Little Fantasy will be released tomorrow, which includes the pop-forward lead single, “I Miss The 80’s”. He will be playing a joint album release party with Hilary Grist on June 26th at the Rio Theatre.
SOTD: Bed of Stars – The Spell
Bed of Stars recently released an enchanting black and white music video for “The Spell”. The track is off of Bed of Stars’ newest EP Tell Me If It’s True, available now via Bandcamp. Evan Konrad, otherwise known by his moniker, has been in the studio working on more new material for an upcoming release for early next year. He will be playing a few shows coming up this summer, including a Canada Day show in Abbotsford.
SOTD: JPNSGRLS – Smalls
JPNSGRLS are getting ready for a busy summer. Last week, the band released a music video for “Smalls”, which serves as the first single from their upcoming debut full-length album Circulation due July 15th.
INTERVIEW: Five Alarm Funk
What do you get when you combine ten years of relentless touring with nine musicians who love to create high-energy music? The answer to that question is Vancouver’s own Five Alarm Funk. The band’s fifth studio album Abandon Earth is set for release on June 10th and is a concept album revolving around the destruction of the Earth by a giant robot. The band will be celebrating with an album release party this Saturday June 7th at the Commodore Ballroom here in Vancouver.
EVENTS: Kate Kurdyak with Alexandria Maillot @ BACKSTAGE LOUNGE – June 11, 2014
Kate Kurdyak is one of the newest additions to the 604 Records roster. Kurdyak and her band were the winners of Youthink Magazine’s ‘BC’s Best Teen Band’ back in 2012. Granville Island is one of the places where the group can be found playing music on a sunny day, so the Backstage Lounge is a fitting venue for a show next week on Wednesday June 11th.
INTERVIEW: Current Swell
This has been a busy month for Current Swell. A handful of US shows, an appearance at Canadian Music Week, a show at the Commodore Ballroom, and a big hometown show in Victoria at Ship Point as part of Red Bull’s Hometown Tour series. More notably, the band released their fifth record Ulysses on May 6th.
