Nothing brings people together on a rainy evening better than a concert at a cozy venue. This past Wednesday, supporters of local music were brought together by a performance of David Vertesi (of Hey Ocean!) who was supported by Windmills and Rosie June at the Anza Club. The show was the last in a series of Western Canadian tour dates in support of Vertesi’s upcoming sophomore record.

This past weekend, Paige Morgan was beaming at the release party for her debut album at Vancouver’s FanClub. As the title of Morgan’s album is Golden, the dress code of the evening was aptly themed with everything gold. Shimmery treats and shiny decorations detailed the venue, which was filled with friends, family, and fans.

JPNSGRLS (with vowels, Japanese Girls) have had a busy year so far, and there are no signs of slowing down. The band released “Smalls”, the first single from their upcoming full-length debut Circulation, just before they toured Western Canada with Mounties. With lots of new fans in tow, JPNSGRLS graced the top of CBC Radio’s Top 30 listener-voted chart for four consecutive weeks with “Smalls”.

There was magic in the air at the Rio Theatre last Thursday night. By magic, I mean a group of wonderfully talented individuals including the Four on the Floor quartet and an array of local musicians creating musical euphoria. The evening was tied together by strings, and certainly left the audience wanting more.
