The Latency is a four-piece band hailing from Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Their first single, “Tonight, I Love You”, slowly gained heavy rotation on local radio stations earlier this year, followed by their current single, “Kids”. Their sound is close to other local talents such as Marianas Trench, Faber Drive, and Hedley, and it is no surprise that The Latency has at some point toured with everyone listed here. That’s not to say that there is an overpopulation of these pop-rock bands, as I’m sure fans of these respective bands will agree with that statement.

There is always room for good music in the industry, and the honesty evident in The Latency’s music will hopefully benefit them in the long run.

What makes “Tonight, I Love You” a departure from a song topic that could easily come across as cheesy or overdone is the honest quality that the band presents in their lyrics and their sound. If it were, say, the winning single of any American Idol contestant, it just wouldn’t have resulted in the same value (for the record, we here at ASAP Music Blog do enjoy our share of American Idols). It is one of those songs that you hear on the radio, and that you love and remember, then just have to find out whose song it is.

This fall will no doubt an exciting and memorable one for the boys of The Latency. Not only will they be touring with Shiloh across Canada in September, their debut album hits stores on September 8th, 2009. For the record, these guys are worth checking out live,  and tickets are under the $20 range. So, keep supporting Canadian music and check The Latency out tonight… you just might love them too.
