“3” seems to be a magical number for the band Three Days Grace (3DG), not only is it a part of the band’s name, but it is also the amount of #1 hits the group has had in the Billboard Alternative/Rock music chart, the number of years in between album releases, and on September 22, 2009, album #3 by Three Days Grace, Life Starts Now, is set to be released and will undoubtedly prove to be the band’s best work to date. The album features little tastes of everything from the inspirational “Life Starts Now” to the emotional pull of “Last to Know” to the heavy and exciting sounds of “The Good Life” to the hard-hitting but truthful words in “No More” and “World So Cold.” There is no doubt the band will exceed fans’ expectations with Life Starts Now and together have found a way to show maturity in their music while remaining close to who they really are.

With all of the excitement and anticipation of Life Starts Now, it’s easy to overlook the band’s past successes. Three Days Grace released their self-titled debut album in 2003, featuring the explosive hits “I Hate Everything About You”, “Just Like You”, “and “Home”, while the album went platinum in the USA and double platinum in Canada – not too shabby for a debut! The sophomore album followed in 2006 and dominated the airwaves…literally, as at the end of 2007, 3DG became the #1 rock artist receiving the most airplay in both the USA and Canada, while also being named the #1 rock artist of 2007 by Billboard Music. The album, One-X, had an edgier and more aggressive stance than the debut album, throwing out hits including “Animal I Have Become”, “Pain”, “Get Out Alive”, and “Riot”. Like the debut, One-X went platinum in the USA and double platinum in Canada.

Fans have been restlessly awaiting the album release, but with the big day coming soon, the wait will prove to be worth the pain. Band members Adam Gontier (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Neil Sanderson (Drums), Brad Waist (Bass, Vocals), and Barry Stock (Lead Guitar), are back with a vengeance and with the first single “Break” rising the charts by the day there is no doubt the third album will go platinum just as the first two albums did in both the USA and Canada. The band hails from various areas of Ontario (Peterborough, Norwood, and Caledon), but one of the qualities that distinguishes Three Days Grace from other rock/alternative bands is their ability to write music that touches people all over the world in ways other bands cannot even seem to compete with. Each lyric jotted down is infused with such emotion that truly moves the listener, and Three Days Grace have seamlessly become a band that many people can relate to. There is so much meaning within each song, and the band constantly deals with difficult subject matters, with each track varying from the next. Some say that 3DG is a “dark” band, and while there is no doubt that there is an intense element to the band, the “dark” issues dealt with on songs are much needed and a breath of fresh air in times when other artists are dishing out songs filled with lyrics that are overtly general and seem to be based on a fantasy-filled, nonsensical world. Three Days Grace may have the power to create some of the most universal music of our time with the lyrics that come alive with each beat.

Look out for Life Starts Now to hit the shelves of music stores and iTunes everywhere September 22, 2009. Shortly thereafter Three Days Grace will be touring across the USA and Canada, and if you haven’t heard or seen the band live, be sure to do so as a Three Days Grace concert will no doubt rate as one of the best.

I totally agree! I think they’ve been one of those bands that have steadily improved album-to-album, and this latest one is one of my personal favourites for sure. I think their overall sound has matured and they really don’t fall under the same category as other Canadian bands like Nickelback, Simple Plan, or Hedley. They definitely boast a unique sound, and I’ve loved what I’ve heard for the past few years from 3DG!
