#musicmonday Artist Feature – SOCIAL CODE

Hometown: Edmonton, AB | Label: Fifth Season Music

With a wide array of Canadian rock bands on the scene, it can be easy to get lost in the crowd. Make no mistake though, Edmonton’s Social Code is back with a vengeance with their newest album release “Rock ‘N’ Roll” and is taking the rock scene by storm and giving other rock bands a serious run for their money. Although Social Code has done fairly well in Canada with previous albums, 2004’s “A Year at the Movies,” and 2006’s self-titled sophomore album, 2009’s “Rock ‘N’ Roll” will be the band’s first full-length U.S release.

After the crossroads that the band imparted on in 2008, members Travis Nesbitt (Vocals), Logan Jacobs (Bass), Morgan Gies (Guitar), Ben Shillabeer (Drums), and newest addition Steve Faulkner (Guitar), have come together and rediscovered each other individually and collectively to find and put forth a sense of originality and honesty behind themselves and their music. “Rock ‘N’ Roll” truly is the beginning of a new path for the band, one where the route is not necessarily pre-determined or following in the footsteps of others, but a journey together, one tune at a time.

The first single off “Rock ‘N’ Roll” is the fun and hard-hitting “Satisfied,” which has been climbing the rock charts for weeks. Other highlights from the album include the funky and original “Buy Buy Baby,” the crowd-pleasing “Fight for Love,” and “Too Late for Tomorrow,” an anthem with a great message behind it. Overall, the album is quite a different route for the band from their two previous albums, and is a fresh take on rock music today. There is a general buzz about the album that takes you back to the good old days of classic rock, giving the album such a wide reach for demographic appeal and overall depth.

Even though Social Code still boasts a sense of youth, the band has received a fair share of great experience through touring with bands such as Theory of a Deadman, Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, Buckcherry, and Rev Theory, among others. Look out for Social Code to hit a town near you in the coming future as they are continuously doing shows in cities across Canada, and are the featured band for the FSX Fire & Ice World Tour (http://newrocklive.com/). While our neighbours to the south (USA) will have to hold on tight until March 23, 2010 for the scheduled release date of the album, Canadians can run to the nearest store and pick up their copy now, or grab the album digitally off of iTunes.
