#musicmonday Artist Feature – JASON COLLETT

Hometown: Bramalea, Ontario | Label: Arts & Crafts

The next time you want to escape to a place where the breeze runs through your hair and you can look out into the world before you without a care in the world, take a listen to Bramalea, Ontario’s Jason Collett. The summery tunes he has projected are perfect for a music fan of any genre, as he dips into the likes of rock, indie, country, alternative, and folk music throughout his tracks. Collett is by no means a rookie in the music industry, but his music is always so fresh and unique that he seems to re-establish his presence with each new track and album.

To date, Collett has released five solo studio albums, 2001’s Bitter Beauty, 2003’s Motor Motel Love Songs, 2005’s Idols of Exile, 2008’s Here’s to Being Here, and his newest album, Rat a Tat Tat, released in March of 2010. If his solo career isn’t commendable enough, Collett got his “big break” alongside Andrew Cash and Hawksley Workman in the alternative-country band, Bird, and is a member of Canadian collective group, Broken Social Scene.

Collett’s music is fairly laid-back, and easy to listen to, with vocals that are soothingly timeless and natural. His musical abilities range in greatness from his inner lyrical genius to his timeless vocals that so wonderfully pair a sense of soul and edge all into one delightful package. As a connoisseur of Canadian music that has international appeal, the opinionated Collett continues to establish his presence on the music industry throughout the world through his work with Broken Social Scene, and more recently on his own with his solo career.

Keep an eye out to see when and if Collett makes a tour stop in a city near you in the coming months. Check out Collett’s official website for more information: http://www.arts-crafts.ca/jasoncollett/index2.php
