#musicmonday Artist Feature – JESSE DAVID WEEKS

There is a huge level of respect for artists who have the ability to write and sing their own songs, and do it well. Jesse David Weeks is a part of that minority. The Toronto native released his debut effort Somewhere In The Distance this past summer, with the title track winning the 2010 RadioStar National song contest, which isn’t surprising after one listen to his songs.

As a collective, Weeks’ songs are effortlessly composed, and radio-ready. His influences are evident through his own music, and comparisons can easily be made with Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, Beoduin Soundclash – to name a few. The difficult part would be placing Somewhere In The Distance in a specific category, as there is a diverse blend of genres. Weeks makes it work with his songwriting skills, topping it off with his smooth vocals.

Weeks has a solid musical resume building up, with numerous songwriting competition wins under his belt, and now with a full-length album to add to that, the ex-policeman has a new duty to fulfill – to share his music with the Canadian music world.
