LISSIE @ Biltmore Cabaret – December 29, 2010

This past Wednesday night, Lissie and her band played a sold-out show in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Biltmore Cabaret. And by sold-out, it literally meant that the people in the first row were touching the stage and not a single spot with a decent view remained – much in relation to the references made by Lissie in that it was like a house party. The energy level was high, and Lissie seemed to feed off of the crowd’s excitement.

Backed by her band mates Eric Sullivan and Lewis Keller, Lissie showed the Vancouver crowd the reason why her stock has risen quickly in the UK in this past year. There is rawness in her songwriting and her voice, and the simplicity that she conveys is nothing short of inspiring.

If anyone in the room had doubts about her vocal or musical abilities, those misunderstandings were instantly clarified as she started off her set with the ‘Wedding Bells’. While a good portion of her setlist was off of her debut album Catching A Tiger, Lissie also included her tracks from her 2009 EP Why You Runnin’.

It was one of our top shows of 2010, and we look forward to the next time that Lissie returns to Vancouver.
