Kevin Garrett is known for his soulful and vulnerable songwriting. It’s no surprise that the thirteen songs on Garrett’s debut album Hoax (released earlier this year in March) were songs that were years in the making. What might be surprising is that his latest song, “Factor In”, is a standalone single outside of his LP.
This track is reminiscent of the songwriting that Garrett is best known for, with heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics and rainy day reflections. Relatability is weaved into the lyrical tapestry with the back and forth internal dialogue that follows the end of a relationship. Garrett puts it perfectly into words in the chorus: “I’ve been living off the way you react / And I’m way too attached to it / Don’t look at me, I’m jaded and passionate.”
