SOTD: James Vincent McMorrow – I Should Go

SOTD

“I Should Go” is the first single from Dublin native James Vincent McMorrow’s upcoming album Grapefruit Season, out September 17, 2021.

As we sit and reminisce about the “Before Times”, I’m sure many of us have imagined what the first party we attend will be like when things are truly back to “normal” – a dark room full of sweaty people trying to have conversations over music that’s way too loud, dancing off-beat and drinking mystery concoctions out of red solo cups. Sounds like a great night…if you’re into that sort of thing.

On “I Should Go,” McMorrow sings from the point of view of someone who realizes that while they are content being alone, it’s hard being lonely. How many of us have let the fear of missing out convince us to go to a party or event, only to get there and realize it was a huge mistake and you would rather be in bed watching episodes of a show you’ve already seen 13 times through? McMorrow’s signature falsetto and Kenny Beats’ production bring the track to life over a groovy beat. Before you know it the song will have you bobbing your head and doing the white man’s overbite (just go with it). It’s a testament to his talent that McMorrow can have you dancing in your seat to a song about sadness and chasing an ephemeral happiness that’s just out of reach.

Looking to catch a live show? If you live across the pond, you’re in luck! McMorrow will be performing a handful of intimate shows very soon, starting at Rough Trade East in London on September 17. Learn more about his music and upcoming shows at https://www.jamesvmcmorrow.com/.
