SOTD: Michaela Slinger – Little Pieces

SOTD

Comparison is the thief of joy. Even though we know this to be true, it’s easy to find yourself stuck in cycles of comparison. Vancouver singer-songwriter Michaela Slinger explores the societal pressures we face internally and externally in her latest release.

“Little Pieces” plays into society’s obsession with the concepts of youth and success, which in turn creates internalized pressure that makes us question everything about our own lives and who we are.

I’m twenty-six now /
So in LA years I’m fifty /
If I’ve still got time /
Why do I already miss me?

The song feels as comforting as a friend reminding you that you aren’t alone in your feelings, with a gentle reminder that there is still joy in everyday moments and possibility in the dreams we hold close to us, despite it all.

Watch the music video for “Little Pieces” below. The video was filmed and directed by Slinger’s frequent collaborator, Sydney Robertson, with Nashville’s Broadway strip acting as the effervescent backdrop.
